Overview
This furniture transformation was completed for a client relocating from Durban to Langebaan in the Western Cape.
Their furniture held sentimental value, but the dark orange wood no longer suited the relaxed coastal style of their new apartment. We preserved each piece while giving it a softer, beach-inspired look.
Layered paint techniques, textured finishes, and custom upholstery gave these much-loved pieces a beautiful new chapter.

Design Focus
Inspired by Langebaan’s coastal charm, this project transformed treasured furniture into pieces that felt fresh and intentional.
Weathered wood finishes, soft neutrals, and touches of seafoam blue created a timeless collection. Every piece was designed to suit the client’s new home.
Before
The original furniture featured dark timber and warm orange tones. These finishes felt too heavy for the client’s new coastal apartment.
Although beautifully made, the pieces no longer reflected the client’s evolving style.
During
Each piece underwent careful preparation, including stripping, sanding, repairs where necessary, and extensive finish testing. Layered paint techniques were used to create depth and texture, while preserving the character and craftsmanship of the original furniture. Upholstery samples and colour combinations were explored to ensure every element worked harmoniously together.
After
The finished collection feels fresh, light, and perfectly suited to coastal living.
The seafoam blue bedside tables add personality. The refinished wicker dresser and matching headboard create a cohesive bedroom suite. A restored vintage dressing chair completes the collection with custom upholstery and a unique fabric.
Together, these pieces prove that beautiful furniture doesn’t need replacing. Sometimes, it simply needs reimagining.
